Society of Professional Journalists recognizes Forum Magazine with second-place best magazine award

April 22, 2014

The Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) has named Forum Magazine, the University of Richmond’s student-produced magazine, Second Place Finalist for “Best Student Magazine” in Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina and Washington, D.C.

The award came in the first year of the magazine’s operation. As the only remaining print publication on campus, Forum Magazine aims to “highlight the best people and projects making an impact on our campus, the Richmond community and the world.”

The outgoing publisher and editor-in-chief, John McAuliff, said, “It has been the greatest honor of my time at Richmond to lead this incredibly talented team of writers, designers and photographers to bring this award home to the university just one year from our founding. I hope this becomes a catalyst for a renaissance of journalism here, and I expect incredible accomplishments in the years to come that build on this success.”

SPJ gives Mark of Excellence Awards in 12 regions across the country and is dedicated to the perpetuation of a free press.
