Campus entrance at River Road and UR Drive to close May 13 through summer

The River Road entrance to the University of Richmond at UR Drive will be closed May 13 through summer 2014 to all vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian traffic. Employees and visitors to campus may access campus at the Westhampton Gate entrance on College Road or the north entrance at Campus Drive and Gateway Road, accessible from Towana Road and Boatwright Drive.

The south-campus area near River Road will undergo major changes over the summer months, said Bill Powell, project manager in the university’s facilities department.

Five sections of townhouse apartments will be torn down, and UR Drive will be rerouted to provide a more scenic entrance to campus, including a direct view of Boatwright Tower, the iconic university symbol. When completed, visitors will be able to pull off UR Drive at a kiosk containing maps and information about the university.
