Department of Defense awards full-tuition SMART scholarship to Christina Annas

Christina Annas, a University of Richmond junior from Chapel Hill, N.C., has received a full-tuition Department of Defense SMART Scholarship.

The Science, Mathematics and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship for Service Program provides funding for students pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM). In addition to the scholarship, students participate in a summer internship and complete a period of post-graduation employment service at a DOD laboratory. Annas will work at the Naval Surface Warfare Center - Dahlgren Division in Dahlgren, Va.

Annas is double majoring in mathematics and interdisciplinary physics. At Richmond, she is a Richmond Science Scholar and is conducting research in the lab of Carol Parish, professor of chemistry.
