University of Richmond is a top producer of Fulbright U.S. Scholars

University of Richmond tied for first in the bachelor’s institutions category of universities producing the most Fulbright U.S. Scholars.

The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs recently announced the U.S. colleges and universities that produced the most 2014-2015 Fulbright U.S. Scholars.

University of Richmond tied with Washington and Lee University. Three scholars from UR were awarded Fulbright grants for 2014-15. They are Elizabeth Baughan, Peter Lurie and Judy Richardson.

Elizabeth Baughan, associate professor of classics and archaeology, received a Fulbright Scholar grant to support her archaeological research in Turkey.

Peter Lurie, associate professor of English and film studies, was awarded a Fulbright Distinguished Chair in American Studies teaching fellowship at the University of Warsaw, Poland.

Judy Richardson, adjunct assistant professor of education in the School of Professional and Continuing Studies, is teaching a class on methods in teaching literacy at the South Eastern European University in Tetovo, Macedonia

"We are proud of our faculty who are Fulbright U.S. Scholars,” said Dr. Jacque Fetrow, provost and vice president of Academic Affairs. “Our campus community as a whole is enriched because of these opportunities our faculty experience.”

The Fulbright Program is the U.S. government’s flagship international educational exchange program. Participants exchange ideas and contribute to finding solutions to shared international concerns.
