August 21, 2015

The American Chemical Society (ACS) has named University of Richmond’s Carol Parish to the 2015 class of ACS Fellows. The 78 scientists have demonstrated outstanding accomplishments in chemistry and important contributions to ACS, the world's largest scientific society.

Parish, whose area of expertise is computational and theoretical physical chemistry, joined University of Richmond’s faculty in 2005. In the past 10 years she has coauthored 23 research publications and raised more than $2 million to support her research group. She has mentored 82 undergraduates in her research. Her students have won numerous scholarships, including eight Goldwater Scholarships, three American Chemical Society Scholarships, a Fulbright Fellowship and a Rhodes Scholarship.

The 2015 Fellows will be recognized at a ceremony and reception Aug. 17, during the Society’s 250th National Meeting & Exposition in Boston.

“Through their work, the ACS Fellows are using the transforming power of chemistry to improve health, protect the planet and feed the world’s population. Through their service in the community they are making science accessible to all, supporting students and teachers and giving back through countless acts of public outreach,” said ACS President Diane Grob Schmidt.
