University of Richmond Library Staff Member Lese Taylor Named Diversity Scholar by Association of Research Libraries

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND — Lese Taylor, a resource sharing specialist in University of Richmond’s Boatwright Memorial Library, has been selected as a 2019-21 diversity scholar by the Association of Research Libraries.

Taylor will participate in the ARL Kaleidoscope Program, which was created to attract master of library and information science students from historically underrepresented racial and ethnic groups to careers in research libraries and archives.

The ultimate goal of the program is to create a diverse professional community of librarians to better meet the needs of researchers and students.

Taylor is one of 18 participants from across the country. She is currently pursuing her master’s degree at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. Diversity scholars receive financial support, leadership development, and mentoring.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to represent my community as an ARL diversity scholar,” said Taylor. “I’m excited to continue the hard work of my predecessors striving to diversify the library profession for the benefit of everyone.”

“The accomplishments of those in the pool of applicants were extremely impressive,” said Lisa German, dean of University Libraries at the University of Houston and member of the selection committee. “If they are indicative of the librarians of the future, we are all in good hands.”
