The Rev. Dr. Peter Gomes, named a “star preacher” by Time magazine and recognized as one of the most outstanding preachers in the English-speaking world, will deliver the 24th annual Weinstein-Rosenthal Lecture at the University of Richmond, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. in Camp Concert Hall.
The lecture, “Joy and Delight: A Biblical Vision of Human Sexuality,” will explore how the Hebrew Bible and New Testament might inform the complex landscape of human sexuality and open avenues of inclusion within contemporary society.
Gomes is the Pusey Minister at Harvard University’s Memorial Church and Plummer Professor of Christian Morals at Harvard Divinity School. He is author of multiple New York Times best-selling books, including “The Good Book: Reading the Bible with Mind and Heart,” and most recently, “The Scandalous Gospel of Jesus.” Gomes has preached and lectured throughout the United States and Europe and is the recipient of 39 honorary degrees.
The Weinstein-Rosenthal Lecture, organized by the Office of the Chaplaincy, brings academicians and practitioners from around the country to campus each year to explore the similarities and differences between the Jewish and Christian traditions. A reception and book signing will follow the event in the Modlin Center courtyard.
The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call 804-289-8500.
