The Department of Military Science and Leadership conducted a battle staff ride on September 26 and 27 in central and western Virginia. The purpose of the staff ride was to improve student understanding of historical battles, assess historical tactics based upon the U.S. Army's current principles of war, and to assist in the student’s officer development by assessing battlefield leader decisions.

Brigadier General (retired) John Mountcastle, former Chief of the Army’s Military History Department, facilitated the two-day leadership conference and staff ride for approximately 20 University of Richmond Spider Battalion cadets.

Cadets spent the night in Charlottesville, Virginia, where they met up with senior ROTC students from the University of Virginia. UR and UVA students mingled over dinner and went ice-skating later that evening.
