Amy Nicholas, '11, a double major in studio art and classical civilization, recently had her work featured on the back page of the spring 2011 Artes Liberales. The series, called "The Chaos of Survival," explores the connections between cancer cells and trees through 3-D photograph collages.

Nicholas, who works in printmaking and collage with photographs, said she wanted to study and explore how images and forms relate to each other — both visually and through their meaning. She combined photos she took of trees with microscopic photos she took of cancer cells at the Gottwald Science Center.

"What they say can be different and similar when they're intertwined," she said.
