Lisa Thompson, GC’11, principal of Washington-Henry Elementary School in Hanover County, has been named the Hanover County Public School winner of the 2021 R.E.B. Award for Distinguished Educational Leadership, receiving a cash grant along with funds for creating a sustainable outdoor learning environment.

Tiawana Giles, GC’13, principal of George W. Carver Elementary School in Richmond, has been named a runner up for the 2021 R.E.B. Award for Distinguished Educational Leadership, receiving funds for promoting science education at her school.

Elisa Tedona, GC’17, is among a team of authors in the Metropolitan Educational Research Consortium (MERC) who published a report seeking to make the Advanced Placement (AP) program more equitable.

Kimberly Bridges, GC’13, is among a team of authors from the Penn State University Center for Education & Civil Right (CECR) and the Virginia Commonwealth Univesrity School of Education who published a report on unequal access to AP classes by race and economic status in Virginia.

In preparation to develop programs for the fall 2021 semester, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute surveyed its members about their experiences and preferences about returning to a new post-pandemic “normal.”

Steve Clayton, a 2019 graduate of the SPCS Beer Brewer Professional Certificate program, plans to open a brewery, winery and meadery with his wife, Melissa, in Chester, later this month.

We celebrated the SPCS Class of 2021 Commencement ceremony on May 8, 2021, at 11:30 a.m. 174 SPCS students were awarded bachelor’s degrees, undergraduate certificates of applied studies, graduate certificates and master’s degrees during the ceremony.
