November 4 Frank Batten Jr. Speaks on Media Business and Family Legacy (Richmond Times-Dispatch)

November 4, 2011

The media empire built by newspaperman and philanthropist Frank Batten Sr. eventually will be sold in pieces, but it could be at least five years before the process is completed, the Norfolk-based company's top executive said in Richmond on Thursday.

"Our commitment to our shareholders is that at some point we will sell our businesses, as it makes sense," said Frank Batten Jr., son of the late Frank Batten Sr. and the chairman and CEO of the former Landmark Communications Inc., now Landmark Media Enterprises LLC.

"We keep waiting for the economy to get better," Batten told students, faculty and other guests at the University of Richmond's Robins School of Business. "Obviously, we want to sell into a strong market, but so far the economy has not gotten much better."
