"It has tremendous potential," said transportation economist George E. Hoffer at the University of Richmond. "They're projecting this train will have a profit from Day One … because of the expected military-generated traffic" from the Hampton Roads region.

And, Hoffer said, "they've got a timeline on this train that makes it competitive with the car" traveling from Hampton Roads to Richmond or Washington.
