Political theorist Peter McNamara to discuss Adam Smith and human nature in May 10 Marshall Center lecture

Political theorist Peter McNamara will discuss “Adam Smith on Human Nature” May 10, 4:30 p.m., in Weinstein Hall, Brown-Alley Room as part of the 2011-12 Marshall Center Lecture Series.

The talk will address Smith’s argument that human nature supports capitalism, freedom and morality. It is free and open to the public.

McNamara is a former research officer for the Australian Treasury. An expert in early modern and American political thought, he is the author of “Political Economy and Statesmanship: Smith, Hamilton and the Foundation of the Commercial Republic.” He teaches political theory at Utah State University.
