Dr. Ellen Walk, information systems program chair, receives 2012 International Education Award

April 30, 2012

Dr. Ellen Walk, assistant professor and program chair of information systems in the School of Professional & Continuing Studies, has been awarded the 2012 International Education Award by the University’s Office of International Studies. Walk holds a dual appointment in the Robins School of Business, where she is assistant professor of management.

Walk received the award for her class MGMT 349 Role of Information and Communications Technologies in Developing Economies. The class included the recent study abroad trip to Panama, conducted by Walk, with eight students (representing the Schools of Arts & Sciences, Business, and Leadership Studies). The course and trip were supported by a grant from the Carol Weinstein endowment.

Each year the Office of International Education recognizes alumni, students, faculty and staff for their outstanding contributions to international education at the University and in the greater community at the International Celebration and Awards Ceremony. This year’s ceremony was held April 3, 2012, when Walk received the award.

In addition, the University Faculty approved Mellon course development grants for Walk and Dr. Claudia Ferman, associate professor of Spanish and film studies, to team-teach a University Seminar in the fall 2012 semester. The seminar will continue the study of information and communications technologies in developing economies from a cross-school, interdisciplinary perspective.
