Dr. Erik Nielson, assistant professor of liberal arts in the School of Professional and Continuing Studies, has published an article in the Winter 2012 edition of MELUS, the journal of the Society for the Study of Multi-Ethnic Literature in the United States.

The article, “A ‘High Tension’ in Langston Hughes’s Musical Verse,” identifies and examines the dialogue between music and literature in Hughes’s writing as “representative of the much broader dynamic between black art and white suspicion.”

Nielson is coordinator of the School’s communications core. His work has been published in a number of peer-reviewed journals, including International Journal of Cultural Studies, Popular Communication, Journal of Black Studies and Journal of Popular Music Studies.
