January 31, 2013

At their December meeting, the University of Richmond Board of Trustees appointed English professor Suzanne Jones to the Tucker-Boatwright Professorship of Humanities.

Jones joined the School of Arts and Sciences in 1984 as an assistant professor and was promoted to the rank of professor in 2004. She has served as program coordinator of the Women, Gender, & Sexuality Studies program, and for the past four years has served as chair of the English department.

Jones has published six books and dozens of articles, and has earned an international reputation for her expertise in the field of Southern literature.

During her career, Jones has earned four teaching awards, including the South Atlantic Association of Departments of English Outstanding Teacher Award, the Virginia State Council of Higher Education’s Outstanding Faculty Award, and two Distinguished Educator Awards from the University of Richmond.

Dean Kathleen Skerrett stated, “Suzanne is a highly respected faculty leader who richly understands the significance of the humanities within a great liberal arts university.”

The University now has three Tucker-Boatwright professorships.
