January 26: Educating ethical finance leaders (Richmond Times-Dispatch)

While talking about the new movie “The Wolf of Wall Street,” a friend recently asked me how I could ethically send newly minted business school graduates to work on Wall Street. Even though I had just finished reading “The Buy Side: A Wall Street Trader’s Tale of Spectacular Excess,” a cautionary tale of drugs and greed in the financial services industry, I had my answer: If there are problems on Wall Street, they can only get better if we send people to work there who are morally grounded. I can also answer that I meet many such people all the time as I visit our many alumni, parents of our students and employers.

There are always two sides of a street. We just tend to hear more about the side of Wall Street that created Bernie Madoff or made for a great book or movie...
