Osher Institute names new director, Peggy Watson, W'76

April 7, 2014

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Richmond has named Margaret (Peggy) Watson, W’76, as its next director following the retirement of former director Jane Dowrick.

Watson is a 1976 alumna of the University of Richmond, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history. Watson went on to earn a Master of Science degree in mass communications from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1987.

Prior to this appointment, Watson served for 14 years as coordinator for the CTE Resource Center, a Virginia Department of Education grant, where she managed the development of curriculum materials and offered training on instructional resources to secondary teachers across the state.

Watson was named after a months-long national search, narrowed from a broad field of applicants to a final field of two who presented in January and February (dodging snowstorms along they way) to a group of Richmond staff and Osher members.

Watson’s extensive experience in communications and education, along with her successful experience administering a state-wide grant, were among qualifications that stood out in her résumé and presentation.

The School of Professional and Continuing Studies, of which the Osher Institute is a program, warmly welcomes Watson to the University of Richmond!
