Teresa Ann Cole, GC’15, a December 2015 M.Ed. candidate in curriculum and instruction, has received an R.E.B. Award for Teaching Excellence from The R.E.B. Foundation. Cole is a teacher at Short Pump Middle School. The monetary award will cover the cost of travelling to England, France, Germany and Italy to study ancestral culture and history toward improving reading and writing instruction.

Cole and 15 other teachers from around the Richmond region received awards during an awards ceremony held November 16, 2015. The R.E.B. Foundation awarded a total of $185,100 to 18 finalists and 16 award winners including Cole.

Cole was selected from 102 teachers nominated for R.E.B. Awards for Teaching Excellence. A press release issued by The Community Foundation notes that teachers nominated are “considered among the best in their field” and “demonstrate a sincere passion for teaching while also serving as mentors, coaches and champions for their students.”

Cole has been accepted into the School’s graduate Educational Leadership & Policy Studies (ELPS) program and will begin coursework in the new degree in January 2016. Assistant chair of the ELPS program Dr. Kate Cassada remarks about Cole that “Teresa is an incredible teacher and leader and will surely put this generous gift to good use.”
