“Black Lives Matter is never going to be popular,” said Julian Maxwell Hayter, assistant professor of leadership studies at the University of Richmond. “If they aspire to popularity, they’ll never be effective. The civil rights movement was never popular, especially the protest portions of the civil rights movement.”
