Julian Hayter, assistant professor of leadership studies, discusses the decision to end Richmond schools Superintendent Dana T. Bedden's contract on June 30, 2017.

“I don’t know what the inner workings of the situation are,” said Julian Maxwell Hayter, an assistant professor of leadership studies at the University of Richmond and the parent of an RPS student. “But I will say this: The lack of transparency in Bedden’s firing weakens the already threadbare faith that people have in Richmond Public Schools.”

“The problem with Richmond Public Schools was not created overnight. And it’s abundantly clear that the compression of poverty in this city has had a profound influence on the nature of Richmond Public Schools,” Hayter said. “There’s no silver bullet strategy to fix Richmond Public Schools. Continuity matters.”
