UR Partners in the Arts provides summer PD opportunities for local educators

August 23, 2017

Partners in the Arts, a program of the University of Richmond School of Professional & Continuing Studies and Richmond’s premier arts and creativity integration progam, organized two summer professional development programs this summer.

The first, the 2017 Joan Oates Institute, engaged 40 participants who attended from 11 school divisions representing over 12 subject areas and was held June 26-June 30.

The second workshop, Telling the Story of Learning: Creative Authentic Assessment, included 23 participants from 3 school divisions representing over 8 subject areas, held August 15-16 with a followup session in October. This professional development workshop was led by Dr. Lisa Donovan and provided K-12 educators with training on using the authentic assessment of student learning to guide and inform the development of an arts integrated unit plan.

The followup session will be held October 21 at the Visual Arts Center of Richmond and will provide a hands-on studio takeover day with professional artists and community partners.
