Spirit Airlines to begin offering nonstop service from Richmond to Fort Lauderdale and Orlando (Richmond Times-Dispatch)

Ultra-low fare, no-frills Spirit Airlines announced Tuesday that it would begin daily nonstop service from Richmond International Airport to a pair of Florida airports, expanding options and competition for Richmond area travelers.
Spirit’s entry into the Richmond market makes it the first new major airline to set up shop at the airport since the arrival of Allegiant in 2015. OneJet, a self-described air transportation network, began offering nonstop service to Pittsburgh from Richmond on small aircraft earlier this year.
