Get ready for sales galore: Retailers gearing up for holiday shopping (Richmond Times-Dispatch)

A robust economy has consumers in a spending mood and that’s good news for retailers as the official kickoff of the holiday shopping season — Black Friday — is just days away.

The National Retail Federation predicts holiday spending, excluding automobiles, gasoline and restaurants, will be up 3.6 percent to 4 percent over last year, with the average consumer expected to spend about $967 this holiday season.
