Don Forsyth comments on the strength of groups in surviving disaster

Don Forsyth, who holds the Colonel Leo K. & Gaylee Thorsness Endowed Chair in Ethical Leadership, comments in the BBC story, "Thailand cave rescue: What will the impact be on the boys' mental health?" Twelve boys on a Thai soccer team and their coach were found to be alive in a cave; however, they could remain trapped for up to four months. The article explores the mental and physical health affects that the team might face. 

Forsyth says, "Previous cases suggest that the group will draw inward, marshalling its combined resources to survive, for if anyone can survive such a disaster, it is a group - and an organised one at that."'

Forsyth, a social and personality psychologist, researches group processes and teaches courses such as Group Dynamics and Leadership and the Social Sciences at the Jepson School of Leadership Studies.
