SPCS Alumni Update

Allyson Goyette, GC'21, has published her educational leadership master’s degree capstone project as an article in VASCD Journal.

The article, Addressing Increased Failures in a Virtual Learning Environment, addresses the increased failure rates in the pandemic-related virtual learning environment that many educators witnessed. It examines courses and proposes an action plan for supporting studies and families, especially students from traditionally marginalized populations.

Goyette, who successfully presented her capstone project, graduated in 2021 with a Master of Education in Educational Leadership & Policy Studies (ELPS) earned through SPCS. Dr. Kate Cassada, ELPS program chair, recognized the strength of the project and recommended that Goyette submit it for publication.

“It felt like others could benefit from her thoughts and experiences,” Cassada reflected. “As a result, she submitted her writing to the VASCD Journal and Eric Carbaugh, editor, accepted it!”

Goyette teaches social studies in Henrico County Public Schools. This is her sixth year in the classroom.
