Virginia Tech biologist to talk about plant stem cells, Virginia Tech's graduate program in molecular plant sciences

September 15, 2011
On Monday, Sept. 19 at 12 p.m. the Department of Biology will host a seminar led by Dr. Eric Beers, a biologist in Virginia Tech’s Department of Horticulture.

Beers, who uses genomic techniques to understand wood formation, will present a lecture, “Studying stem cells in stems: reverse genetic investigations of wood formation in Arabidopsis and poplar.”

He will also talk about Virginia Tech’s molecular plant sciences graduate program, which welcomes applications from students with academic backgrounds in any area of biology. Students are encouraged to ask questions about the program’s admission requirements and application process.

The talk will be held in the Gottwald Science Center’s auditorium. For more information, please contact faculty sponsor Angie Hilliker at (804) 484-1423.
