A symposium devoted to a book written by University of Richmond Tucker-Boatwright professor of philosophy Gary Shapiro will be held at the University of Jyväskylä in Jyväskylä, Finland on March 17, 2010.

The “After Nietzschean Narratives: Biography, History, Poetics and Philosophy” symposium refers to Shapiro’s 1989 work Nietzschean Narratives.

Nietzschean Narratives suggests that a wide variety of disciplines, including psychology and cognitive sciences, can be linked to the work of 19th century philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche.

Participants will present research relating their fields to Nietzsche’s philosophy, poetry, musical compositions and photographs.

This is the fourth symposium or conference session devoted to Shapiro’s writings. The Society for Phenomenology and Existential Philosophy held conferences in 1992 and 2005, and the International Association for Philosophy and Literature held one in 2003.
