March 5, 2013

Rafael O. De Sá, professor of biology at the University of Richmond, has received a Distinguished Chair in the Fulbright Science Without Borders program in Brazil.

De Sá will teach two courses about amphibian diversity and conservation biology at the Universidade de São Paulo. He also will conduct research to connect genetic and biodiversity analyses of neotropical frog populations and conservation policy development.

The Fulbright Program, founded in 1946 and managed by the U.S. State Department, sends students, faculty and professionals abroad to promote the exchange of knowledge. The Distinguished Chairs Program makes about 40 awards annually to scholars with extensive publication and teaching records to lecture and/or conduct research abroad for up to a year.

De Sá has taught at Richmond since 1992, and won the university’s Distinguished Educator Award in 1997. He previously has been a distinguished visiting professor at the National Museum of Natural History in Paris and a visiting program director at the National Science Foundation, among numerous other research and teaching awards.
