'Berkshire Beyond Buffett' author to speak at University of Richmond

In “Berkshire Beyond Buffett,” Lawrence A. Cunningham challenges the assumption that without Warren Buffett Berkshire Hathaway cannot survive.

Cunningham will discuss the book at 6 p.m., Feb. 5, at University of Richmond’s Robins School of Business, Ukrop Auditorium. He will be joined by Tom Gayner, president and chief investment officer of Markel Corporation, a global enterprise headquartered in Richmond.

In his book, Cunningham examines the inner workings of Berkshire’s business model and culture, and explains why the conglomerate will not only survive, but thrive.

"I'm eager to share the riveting tales of Berkshire's many colorful entrepreneurs with the Richmond community,” said Cunningham, who is a professor of law at George Washington University and director of GW’s Center for Law, Economics and Finance in New York.  

Berkshire Hathaway, the $300+ billion conglomerate that Buffett built, is among the world’s large and most famous corporations.

“This discussion provides a rare opportunity to learn about one of the most successful companies in the world from someone whose expertise includes a deep knowledge of it,” said Wendy Perdue, dean of the School of Law, which is hosting the event along with the Robins School of Business.

The evening will feature a Q&A period with the audience. A reception and book signing will follow.

The event is free and open to the public.
