University of Richmond participates in Virginia Private College Week July 27-31; campus visits important to college search process

Virginia Private College Week provides the opportunity for prospective students and their families to explore campuses throughout the Commonwealth. This year University of Richmond, and 23 other independent colleges, will welcome students during the last week of July.

Virginia Private College Week is an annual event sponsored by the Council of Independent Colleges in Virginia. Students who visit at least three institutions during the week will receive fee waivers to apply to any three participating CICV colleges for free, regardless of whether they visited that campus or not.

Participating colleges hold daily programs on admissions, financial aid, academics and campus life for rising juniors, seniors and prospective transfer students. At University of Richmond, these programs will be Monday, July 27, through Friday, July 31, at 9:45 a.m. and 2:15 p.m., followed by student-guided campus tours. Online registration is recommended.

“Visiting campuses early in the college search process is important in whittling down the list of schools where you will actually apply,” said Nate Crozier, director of admission for UR. “Questions about the size of campus, its location and the setting can all be addressed during a visit.”

“This week is also a great opportunity for students and parents to ask questions and for private colleges to dispel myths,” Crozier added. “One of the common myths I hear is private institutions are more expensive than their public counterparts. I always advise students not to rule out any college or university based solely on the sticker price because you are not sure what merit-based scholarships you may qualify for or what need-based funds your family may qualify for.”
