Lázaro Lima appointed University of Richmond associate provost

The University of Richmond has announced the appointment of Lázaro Lima as the university’s next associate provost for faculty.

Lima will work with faculty members on their professional enrichment and success. He also will focus on recruitment of a diverse faculty body, faculty retention and enhancing the quality of life for all UR faculty.

“I am excited to work with my fellow faculty members to create and support an educated and deeply committed citizenry through the teacher-scholar model that we live by at UR,” said Lima of his new role. “My main goal is to help provide faculty with the tools they need to succeed while keeping the student experience front and center.”

Lima is the E. Claiborne Robins distinguished chair in liberal arts and a professor of American Studies and Latin American, Latino and Iberian Studies. A noted scholar of Latin American and Latino studies, his books include “The Latino Body: Crisis Identities and American Literary and Cultural Memory” and the forthcoming “Sonia Sotomayor: An American Life After Multiculturalism.” He has been at UR since 2011.

“Dr. Lima brings significant vision and experience into this important position,” said Jacquelyn Fetrow, provost and vice president of Academic Affairs. “During his time at Richmond, he has served on University Faculty Council, the Curriculum Committee and on key senior searches as diversity liaison to the dean of Arts and Sciences.”

Lima holds a Ph.D. in Latin American and U.S. Latino Literary and Cultural Studies from University of Maryland, College Park, a master’s degree in Latin American Literatures and Cultures from City University in New York and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and psychology from The Connecticut State University.
