UR students receive national awards for academic excellence

Six University of Richmond students have recently received scholarships or awards nationally recognized as top honors for student scholars.

Two seniors who graduated May 7 earned Fulbright English Teaching Assistant awards. Ryan McEvoy will spend his Fulbright year in Germany and then enroll at the University of Pennsylvania Law School. Taylor Johnson, a history and Russian studies double major will be teaching English in a school in Ukraine from September 2017 through June 2018.

Juniors Grace Conway, Arjun Jaini, and Andrew Levorse, were selected as prestigious Goldwater Scholars, awarded to outstanding students who wish to pursue careers in the natural sciences, mathematics and engineering. Since 1990, UR students have received 24 Goldwater scholarships and six honorable mentions.

Megan Higgins, a junior, earned a U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarship to study Chinese in Taiwan during the summer of 2017. The CLS program is part of a U.S. government effort to expand the number of Americans studying critical foreign languages enabling them to contribute to U.S. economic competitiveness and national security.
