May 1, 2018

Monika Kukar-KinneyMonika Kukar-Kinney, a professor of marketing in the University of Richmond’s Robins School of Business, has received a Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges Mednick Memorial Fellowship.

The grant will support her project examining and comparing cultural and personal factors that may lead to consumer digital piracy behavior in the United States and Slovenia. Digital piracy is the illegal distribution of copyrighted material, including music, television shows and movies.

“I’m exploring the U.S. and Slovenia because the two countries are culturally distinct,” said Kukar-Kinney. “This research aims to examine both cultural and personal variables as antecedents of digital piracy as well as perceived consequences of piracy.”

Kukar-Kinney has taught at UR since 2003. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia and completed her Ph.D. in marketing from Indiana University.
