University of Richmond President to Help Students with Move-in

The University of Richmond will welcome new students from around the world to campus for the 2018-19 academic year on Aug. 22. President Ronald A. Crutcher assisted students with move-in. Classes begin Aug. 27.
The incoming first-year class of 2022 is among Richmond’s most academically talented. A record number of 11,881 applications were received for just over 800 spaces.
The overall academic profile of the applicant pool rose with increases in unweighted grade point average, ACT composite scores, and mean SAT combined scores. The demographic composition, including number of domestic students of color and international students remained consistent with past years.
“Our incoming class of students is highly accomplished, and we are excited to see what they will achieve next,” said Gil Villanueva, associate vice president and dean of Admission.
Within the class of 2022:
- 333 students were in the National Honor Society
- 270 were athletic team captains
- 33 are Eagle Scouts or girl Scout Gold Award Winners
- 24 are student government and/or class presidents
Those students who chose Richmond are coming from 38 states and Washington, D.C. Thirty-nine international students come from 25 countries, including Syria, Nicaragua, Myanmar and Morocco.
The class is also one of our most diverse. This year’s class marks the tenth consecutive year in which more than 20 percent of incoming first-year students are domestic students of color. In addition, one in seven are first-generation college students — a 20 percent increase.
“The university remains committed to access and affordability,” Villanueva said. “Fifty-two percent of our entering first year students are receiving grants or scholarships.”
