UR Law Professor Named 2019 Distinguished Energy Law Scholar

Joel Eisen, a professor and energy law scholar at the University of Richmond’s School of Law, will serve as the 2019 Distinguished Energy Law Scholar at Vermont Law School.

Ranked as one of the top energy law programs in the country, this prestigious summer residency recognizes the central role Eisen’s legal scholarship has played in the field of energy law.

As the Distinguished Energy Law Scholar, Eisen will contribute his expertise on environmental law and policy through workshops for students and faculty. During his residency in Vermont, Eisen will also make public presentations on energy issues and collaborate with leading scholars at the Vermont Law School on projects to modernize the grid.

“I look forward to immersing myself in Vermont Law’s rich intellectual environment, sharing ideas with faculty and students, and thinking more deeply about our nation’s energy future,” said Eisen.

Eisen’s work focuses on climate change, energy law and policy, and the Smart Grid. In recognition of his outstanding scholarship, University of Richmond School of Law named him the inaugural Austin Owen Research Fellow for 2013-18.

The Vermont Law School invites leaders in the fields of environmental, energy, agriculture, and international environmental law to serve as Distinguished Summer Scholars in residency. Each scholar delivers a public lecture, participates in informal social events on campus, and meets with students individually.
