UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND — Paul Kvam, a professor of statistics at the University of Richmond, has received a Fulbright Scholar Award for travel to Hong Kong to further his research in nonparametric statistics.

Kvam plans to visit City University of Hong Kong from January to early May 2021, where he will collaborate with the Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management. He will be teaching a class in nonparametric statistics for engineers and scientists, as well as mentoring students and presenting several seminars that combine statistical instruction with lessons related to culture and lifestyles in the U.S.

While in Hong Kong, Kvam will also be pursuing his own research project.

"I aim to work with current faculty members to infuse more computationally intensive nonparametric methods and ideas in order to create new and robust statistical estimators, confidence intervals and hypothesis tests," Kvam said.

Kvam has taught at the University of Richmond since 2014. In addition to teaching statistics, he is also the co-coordinator for mathematical economics program alongside economics professor Saif Mehkari.
