University of Richmond's Modlin Center for the Arts Receives Grant Support for 2021-22 Performance Season

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND — The University of Richmond’s Modlin Center for the Arts has received a $60K grant from the E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Foundation to support the 2021­–22 performance season.

Curated by Shannon Hooker, assistant director, the Modlin Center will offer 20 live performances for the 2021–22 season with six artist residencies supported by the Carpenter Foundation. Performances range from celebrating Indonesian dance to exploring the new musical genre Afro-Cuban funk, and include a mix of professional artists and performers as well as UR faculty and students.

“Modlin's mission is to present diverse and vibrant arts experiences that inspire, engage, and enrich the community on- and off-campus,” said Hooker. “We are thrilled to offer programming that brings us back together to celebrate compelling artists and highlight the creative work of UR students and faculty in music, theater, and dance. 

The Modlin Center, which is part of the University’s School of Arts & Sciences, recently welcomed Paul Brohan as its new executive director.

“Modlin and the University of Richmond are important contributors to the rich cultural landscape of the Richmond region, and I look forward to further enriching the vibrant interchange of creative exploration, expression, and engagement across our campus and our community,” Brohan said.

This will be the Modlin Center's 26th year of funding from the Carpenter Foundation, which makes total support for the annual concert series nearly $2 million.
