University of Richmond Ranked #1 in Study Abroad Participation by Open Doors Report
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND — The University of Richmond ranked first among baccalaureate colleges awarding credit for study abroad participation, according to the latest Open Doors Report. Richmond also ranked #2 for the number of students studying abroad for a quarter- or semester-long program.
UR has been contributing data to the Open Doors Report for 75 years, since the report’s inception in 1949. This annual survey focuses on international education opportunities, including data from the U.S. Department of State, the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, and the Institute of International Education.
“International Education is proud to continue to receive top rankings in study abroad participation. This year’s ranking is significant because it considers short- and long-term programming” said Martha Merritt, dean of international education. “The Open Doors ranking is a reflection of UR’s dedication to ensuring all Spiders have access to a study abroad experience that complements their studies, career goals, and personal interests.”
UR offers students many ways to study abroad, including research and internship opportunities, traditional semester-long programs, and the award-winning EnCompass program, which provides support to students who are least likely to have an international experience. Nearly 70% of UR students graduate with international experience.
Among peer baccalaureate institutions, the University of Richmond also ranked:
- #12 in short-term duration of study abroad (1-3 weeks)
- #13 in enrolling international students
- #20 in undergraduate participation in study abroad
