Equal Pay Day
March 12 is Equal Pay Day in 2024. This symbolic day is dedicated to raising awareness of the gender pay gap. Labor market economist Kevin F. Hallock, president and economics professor at the University of Richmond, is available to discuss the gender pay gap, including why inequity in pay persists in the U.S. and what can be done to fix it.
“Despite decades of research and work by consultants, we still have a problem of women earning less than men," Hallock said. "Paying people correctly is important and not enough organizations do it well. Companies should want to pay people fairly to attract and retain workers committed to their organizations. Until companies embrace a different approach to combat the gender pay gap, it will persist, and both firms and their employees will be worse off.”
Hallock is co-founder and senior advisor at PayStandards. He was previously a professor at Cornell University where he was the founding director of the Institute for Compensation Studies and dean of the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business.
