Celebrating Faculty Promotions
Richmond Law is proud to continue our celebration of faculty news this week. Congratulations to the following faculty members who were promoted this semester.
Prof. Christopher Corts, who teaches, speaks, and writes at the intersection of abstract legal theory and the rigors of everyday legal practice, was promoted to Professor of Law, Legal Practice. He joined the Richmond Law faculty in 2013.
Professional Highlights
- Author, A Lawyer Sits (The Practice), 19 Rich. J. L. & Pub. Int. 413 (2016).
- Previously practiced law in the Appellate Practice and Trial Support Group at Carlton Fields in Miami.
Prof. Ashley Dobbs, who specializes in intellectual property and transactional legal services, was promoted to Associate Clinical Professor of Law. She joined the Richmond Law faculty in 2015.
Professional Highlights
- Serves as Director of the Intellectual Property & Transactional Law Clinic, which provides legal services to non-profits, artists, and small businesses.
- Serves on the Board of PetSmart Charities.
Prof. Doron Samuel-Siegel, who teaches and speaks in the areas of legal writing and analysis as well as restorative justice, was promoted to Professor of Law, Legal Practice. She joined the Richmond Law faculty in 2013 after serving as an adjunct since 2010.
Professional Highlights
- Previously practiced law at Tucker Griffin Barnes in Charlottesville and served as Director of Agency Relations & Programs at the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.
- Volunteers with the Albemarle Housing Improvement Program.
Prof. Tamar Schwartz, who teaches and speaks in the areas of legal analysis and writing as well as law and literature, was promoted to Professor of Law, Legal Practice. She joined the Richmond Law faculty in 2005.
Professional Highlights
- Previously served as Executive Director of the Legal Information Network for Cancer and practiced law at Morrison & Foerster LLP, in Washington, D.C., where she specialized in intellectual property law.
- Serves on the Executive Board of the Section on Balance in Legal Education of the American Association of Law Schools.
Prof. Rachel Suddarth, who teaches, writes, and speaks in the areas of legal writing and analysis as well as health law, was promoted to Professor of Law, Legal Practice.
Professional Highlights
- Author, The Burden of a Good Idea: Examining the Impact of Unfunded Federal Regulatory Mandates on Medicare Participating Hospitals, 24 Wash. & Lee J. Civ. Rts. & Soc. Just. 463 (Jan. 2018).
- Previously practiced regulatory health care law at Hancock, Daniel, Johnson & Nagle, P.C., in Richmond.
Prof. Laura Webb, who teaches, writes, and speaks in the areas of legal writing and analysis, including rhetoric, was promoted to Professor of Law, Legal Practice. She joined the Richmond Law faculty in 2013 after serving as an adjunct since 2006.

- Previously practiced law at Reed Smith, LLP, in Richmond, where she specialized in immigration law.
