University Dancers Prepare for Anniversary

January 29, 2020
University Dancers celebrate thirty-five years of engaging dance with their annual concert.

University Dancers will celebrate thirty-five years of engaging dance with their annual concert at the end of February.

The 35th Annual Concert will bring works of renowned choreographers from around the world to the Alice Jepson Theatre on February 28th through March 1st.

As guest artists visiting the campus, choreographers Camille A. Brown of Camille A. Brown & Dancers, Charlotte Boye-Christensen and Nathan Webster from NOW-ID, Sean Aaron Carmon from NYC and Houston, TX, and Larry Keigwin of Keigwin + Co, spent time with the University Dancers to help them prepare for the big event. Most recently Mr. Keigwin, founder of Keigwin +Co, spent a week working with the dancers to re-stage his iconic piece, Caffeinated, which will be one of many performances at the concert.

Supported by the Tucker-Boatwright Festival of Literature and the Arts and hosted by the Department of Theatre & Dance, the concert will also feature new works choreographed by Richmond favorite, Starrene Foster, founder/artistic director of Starr Foster Dance; Eric Rivera, faculty member at Virginia Commonwealth University and former dancer with Ballet Hispánico; and Anne Van Gelder, department faculty member and artistic director of University Dancers.

Outstanding adjudicated student choreography will be featured, and department faculty members Johann Stegmeir and Maja E. White will design costumes and lights, respectively.
