For Bridget Swartz, a senior business administration major and English minor, the tight job market didn’t get her down. It got her motivated.

“I started seriously searching for a job over winter break,” said Swartz, who used the Career Development Center’s online database, SpiderConnect, to search for positions specifically posted for Richmond students. “I was more open to positions than I originally might have been, and I was more willing to contact people I knew for information or leads.”

Swartz’s open-minded approach led her to connect with a friend and 2007 Richmond graduate who is now working for Cvent, the market leader of on-demand event management software and strategic meetings management solutions. When Swartz saw that the company was coming to campus for on-campus interviews, she applied and was accepted for an interview.

“Bridget is a bright, motivated, driven and goal-oriented person, and she’s a strong communicator,” said Sophia MacDonald, Cvent’s human resources manager. “She met all the characteristics that we look for in candidates, and she had a positive attitude and great energy that came across very well.”

Swartz was offered and accepted a product consultant position based out of McLean, Va. She will start in July, training clients on how to use Cvent’s products and assisting the sales team with product knowledge and prospecting calls. She’ll also be able to take advantage of the company’s training opportunities while working in an entrepreneurial, challenging and enriching environment.

“I hope to learn more about managing positive client relationships while staying on top of the latest software development,” said Swartz, who one day hopes to earn her M.B.A and gain experience in marketing and brand management. “The CDC’s on-campus interview program helped me get my foot in the door, get that initial interview and connect with a great company.”

Cvent, which has now hired three Richmond graduates, was recently named Washington Business Journal’s “Best Places to Work in the greater Washington, D.C. area” for 2009 and was recognized by Deloitte as one of the “Fastest 50 Growing Companies in Virginia.”
