Kendree Thieringer, a Local Broadcast Buyer for the Martin Agency, entered the MBA program in the fall 2010 semester.  At the Martin Agency, Thieringer strategically promotes her clients on various TV and radio outlets.  “I negotiate and implement TV and radio schedules on behalf of our clients.  Based on their target demographic and budget I put together a schedule to most effectively and efficiently reach potential customers,” she explained. Thieringer graduated from the Robins School of Business in 2006 with an undergraduate degree in business administration with concentrations in marketing and economics.

Since starting with the Martin Agency in 2007, Kendree has been promoted from Assistant Buyer to Local Broadcast Buyer.  She enjoys her job because of the variety that it provides her on a day-to-day basis.

“Each day is different – whether it’s negotiating rates and ratings with reps, putting a buy together, monitoring schedules that are on-air, or evaluating a campaign that has finished airing, I am consistently busy,” she explained.

Kendree decided to pursue the Richmond MBA because of the flexibility of its part-time program and her willingness to stay and grow within her current organization.  Thieringer said, “I didn’t want to pursue a full-time program, because I love my position (and I don’t want to leave my company).”

Ultimately, Thieringer was compelled to pursue her MBA to further her career in a management role.

“[The Richmond MBA was] something I wanted to pursue to further my education, to help me personally, and gain more knowledge that I can bring into my work atmosphere.  I wanted to stay in Richmond, and I chose to look at The Richmond MBA program because of its well-known reputation,” she said.

Since starting in the program, Thieringer has been impressed with the diversity of her classmates as well as the MBA curriculum.

“My classmates come from such diverse backgrounds and being able to learn different things from everyone, has been great,” she said.

Thieringer sees the diversity of the MBA coursework as setting her apart professionally, from her colleagues.

She said, “I’m looking forward to gaining knowledge for my career path and getting a more holistic view of how business is run.  I definitely think The Richmond MBA will give me a leg up in my work environment.”

Thieringer is already enjoying the challenges that The Richmond MBA provides and is looking forward to growing within the program and learning more from her peers and professors.

“[The Richmond MBA is] the perfect environment for me, it has already been a challenge but in a great way.  At the same time, I’m excited and looking forward to everything that’s coming,” she said.
