Linda Boland receives VFIC Mednick Fellowship

September 27, 2010

Linda Boland, biology professor at the University of Richmond, has received a 2010 Maurice L. Mednick Memorial Fellowship for excellence and innovation from the Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges (VFIC).

Boland, a neurophysiologist, will use the grant to continue her study of the origins of electrical activity in the nervous systems of animals. She will receive training in sophisticated methods of genomic analysis at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) on Long Island, N.Y.

Established in 1975 by the VFIC, the grant encourages and assists faculty members in their research and advanced study.

Boland hopes her research will “advance understanding of the structural components of ion channels and the relationship between ion channels in animals with and without nervous systems.”
