SPCS launches Cybersecurity Boot Camp in partnership with Trilogy Education Services, now accepting applications for fall

May 14, 2019

The University of Richmond School of Professional & Continuing Studies has launched Cybersecurity Boot Camp, a 24-week intensive professional certificate program for those seeking to enter or advance in the cybersecurity industry.

The professional education program, offered in partnership with Trilogy Education Services, takes a multidisciplinary approach to helping students attain proficiency in IT, networking and modern information security.

The program is rigorous, fast-paced, and focused on the practical technical skills needed to solve business problems. The curriculum covers foundational topics in cybersecurity and networking, including the following:

  • Networking
  • Systems
  • Cybersecurity
  • Ethical Hacking and Penetration
  • Cybersecurity Careers
  • Programming and Scripting

Program outcomes include successfully designing and configuring secure networks; analyzing malware to identify its origin and purpose, and to determine methods for uninstalling it; performing network, system, and web penetration testing activities; and developing best practices in implementing security strategy policies across an organization.

The School has launched Cybersecurity Boot Camp to meet the exploding need for cybersecurity expertise and professionals. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook, job growth for information security analysts is expected to increase by 28% through the year 2026, growth that is much faster than average for most fields. And according to ISACA’s State of Cyber Security 2017 report, more than one in five organizations report getting fewer than five applicants for open cyber positions.

The launch of Cybersecurity Boot Camp follows successful launches of UR Coding Boot Camp and UR Data Analytics Boot Camp, all offered in partnership with Trilogy Education Services.

Applications are being accepted for fall 2019, with classes starting September 10. Classes are held on the UR campus on Tuesday and Thursday evenings along with Saturdays. Upon successfully completing the program, students receive a Professional Certificate from the University of Richmond.

There is no application fee, and the program offers pre-course tutorials for students with little or no prior experience. Richmond alumni are eligible for a $500 discount, and individuals who enroll by the early registration date are eligible for a $1,000 early registration discount.
