Sue Goodwin, GC'21, named to board of ReEstablish Richmond
SPCS Alumni Update
Sue Goodwin, GC'21, has been named to the Board of Directors of ReEstablish Richmond, a Richmond-based nonprofit organization focused on helping refugees settle into Richmond while maintaining ties to their home culture. Goodwin earned a Master of Nonprofit Studies degree through SPCS earlier this year.
As a student in the Nonprofit Studies program, Goodwin collaborated with fellow student Jody Green and program chair Dr. Andrew Schoeneman to present at the March 2020 meeting of the Virginia Association of Museums (VAM). The presented a paper based on their research titled “Creating an Equitable Visitor Experience: How Museums Foster and Respond to Change.” Green has since gone on to work as assistant director and special projects manager at the Harn Museum in Florida.
ReEstablish Richmond works to provide bridges of support for longer periods and fill gaps beyond initial resettlement services; to listen and respond to the changing needs of refugee and new immigrant communities; and to connect newcomers with the right resources so they can exercise their full capabilities as providers, parents, and community members.
The Nonprofit Studies program in SPCS offers a graduate certificate and master’s degree in nonprofit studies. A 15-month master’s degree option enables recent graduates to continue full-time study to earn a Master of Nonprofit Studies degree in just over a year.
