July 17, 2012

University of Richmond has appointed Rob Blandford as chief investment officer of its investment affiliate, Spider Management Co. LLC, effective immediately. A member of the Spider Management investment team since 1999, Blandford most recently served as director of investments.

Blandford has played a significant role in asset allocation and manager decisions, as well as recruiting and managing the investment team. He is deeply committed to the clients of Spider Management – and to the important missions of the non-profit institutions and organizations with which it works.

“Rob has been a central part of Spider Management for more than a decade and has done an outstanding job,” said university President Edward L. Ayers. “Our endowment makes it possible for the University of Richmond to provide unparalleled educational opportunity and to sustain important programs in the community and beyond. With Rob, we know Spider Management is in great hands.”

Blandford received a B.S. in business from the University of Richmond and an MBA from Virginia Commonwealth University. He is also a chartered financial analyst. Prior to joining the University of Richmond, he was senior portfolio manager at Lowe, Brockenbrough & Co. and, before that, senior investment officer of the Virginia Retirement System.
