Clarinetist Who Performed at Carnegie Hall and Five-Time National Rock-Climbing Champ Among Richmond's Class of 2023

Accomplished First-year Students Selected Among Competitive Pool of Over 12,000

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND ─ The more than 800 students who make up the incoming first-year class of 2023 were selected from a record number of 12,356 applications. It was the first time UR has received more than 12,000 applications and the 5th time it received more than 10,000.

Highlights from the Class of 2023 include:

  • 835 first-year students and 45 transfers
  • 28% students of color
  • 114 first-generation students (10th time over 100 in 12 years)
  • 8% international students from 27 countries, including Greece, Paraguay, and Singapore

“The class of 2023 includes a phone accessory patent holder, a clarinetist who has performed at Carnegie Hall, a five-time national champion rock climber, and a paperie owner who donates all profits to charity,” said Gil Villanueva, associate vice president and dean of admission. “These talented students are already highly accomplished, and we are excited to see what they will achieve next.”

The University of Richmond will welcome new students from around the world to campus for the 2019-20 academic year with classes beginning Aug. 26.
