UR Health Psychology Professor Camilla Nonterah Receives Jeffress Trust Grant For Research On Access To Organ Transplants

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND — Camilla Nonterah, assistant professor of health psychology, has been awarded $100,000 from the Thomas F. and Kate Miller Jeffress Memorial Trust for her research on barriers in access to organ transplants.

The goal of this research project is to help reduce disparities in access to kidney transplantation, especially for renal patients from minoritized backgrounds by improving ways of identifying those at risk for experiencing problems.

"We ultimately want to help identify these high-risk renal patients who may experience difficulties in accessing kidney transplantation and help close that gap,” Nonterah said. “We plan to develop an assessment tool in both English and Spanish to reach a wide group of people.”

Nonterah is a counseling psychologist by training whose research and clinical interests focus on behavioral medicine. She joined the University of Richmond in 2017.

Jeffress Trust awards support projects that integrate computational and quantitative scientific methodologies across a broad range of scientific disciplines. This grant supports a post-doctoral fellow, two UR undergraduate researchers, a summer research stipend for Nonterah, as well as travel and other project expenses. Nonterah also recently received a $50K Grant from the American Society of Transplantation to support this research.
